DWU Cross Country Competes in Final Tune up before GPAC

YANKTON, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s cross country teams competed in the Mount Marty Invitational, the final meet before the Tigers host the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships.

The Tiger men were led by sophomore Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) who finished the 8K race in 26 minutes, 58.65 seconds to place 34th. Sophomore Jeremiah Panec (Kenesaw, Neb.) finished 47th crossing the line in 27:22.60. Kellan Willet finished in 28:15.50 for 79th. The Tigers did not have a team score.

The men s competition was won by the University of Sioux Falls with a total of 19 points and the top four finishers.

On the women s side, the Tigers top finisher was junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) with a time of 21:17.55 in the 5K race. Sophomore Jessica Neises (Madison, S.D.) was 146th with a time of 22:10.55, while freshman Shailhyn Schweigert (Burke, S.D.) was 171st with a time of 23:23.94. The DWU women did not qualify a team score.

The women s title was taken by Dordt College with a score of 23 and three of the top-five finishers.

The Tigers are next in action at the GPAC Championships Nov. 8 at Wild Oak Golf Club in Mitchell, S.D.
