Tiger women take 8th, men 10th at GPAC XC Championships

MITCHELL, S.D. The 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference cross country season came to an end at the league s championship meet Saturday at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell, S.D.

The Tigers finished eighth on the women s side, while the DWU men took 10th out of 11 teams.

The women finished with a score of 317, finishing two points better than 11th place Briar Cliff University. The women were led by junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.), who finished the 5K race in 64th place out of 94 runners with a time of 20 minutes, 43.76 seconds.

Junior Nicole Court-Menedez (Lewiston, Maine) finished 72nd with a time of 21:22.91, while Jessica Neises (Madison, S.D.) took 78th with a time of 21:38.92.

The women s title was captured by Dordt College, which is ranked second in the NAIA. The Defenders had five of the top nine runners in the field and finished with a team score of 31. The individual crown went to Gabi Jenkins from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a time of 17:42.16.

On the men s side, the Tigers finished eighth out of 11 teams with a score of 237. DWU was led by freshman Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) with a time of 26:17.55 on the 8K course. Sophomore Kellan Willet (Lincoln, Neb.) took 24th with a time of 26:21.49, while freshman Jeremiah Panec (Kenesaw, Neb.) took 51st with a time of 27:11.21.

The men s title went to Morninside College with 44 total points, including the top two finishers individually. Jay Welp and Mark Abrams finished in the top two spot individually for the Mustangs.
