Three Tigers take first at opening meet of seasonPublished by
SPEARFISH, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s indoor track teams opened the 2015 season at the Myrle Hanson Memorial Open Saturday hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. The Tigers had three athletes win events at the meet including sophomore Isaac Van Essen (Sioux Falls, S.D.), who placed first in the men s long jump. Van Essen won the event with a leap of 6.29 meters, out jumping three other competitors in the event. Junior Daniel Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) also leaped his way to a win for the DWU men, taking the long jump. In his first attempt, Porter recorded a score of 13.17 meters to secure the win. Senior Rayan Antaya (Plankinton, S.D.) recorded a second-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 14.25 meters. On the women s side, senior Abby Fossum (Canton, S.D.) took the triple jump with a distance of 9.59 meters. Sophomore Jessica Neises (Madison, S.D.) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 6.83 seconds. No team scores were kept at the meet. The Tigers season continues at the Northern State University Multi Friday in Aberdeen, S.D.
