Tigers set personal bests at GPAC Outdoor Championships

CRETE, Neb. Six members of the Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team set personal bests in seven different events over the weekend at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Crete, Neb.

Jessica Fossum set a school record, Ariana Arampatzis recorded top-10 marks in two events and Skylar Forgey, Jamie Geho, Jessica Neises and Abby Fossum also recorded one mark in the top 10 in Tiger track history

Fossum set the school record in the heptathlon Saturday afternoon. She finished 10th in the event with 3,700 points. Her highest finish in the seven-event competition was in the shot put where she took fourth with a toss of 32-feet-8.25 inches. She took ninth in the long jump (15-5.5) and 100-meter hurdles (16.64), 10th in the javelin (95-3) and high jump (4-7.5), 12th in the 200 in 28.19 seconds and 13th in the 800 in 2:50.78.

Arampatzis finished 14th in the heptathlon with 3,474 points the second-most points in school history. Her best finish was the javelin, where she took sixth with a toss of 107-9. Arampatzis also took ninth in the shot put with a mark of 30-8.25, 10th in the long jump (15-2), high jump (4-7.5) and 100 hurdles (16.81) and 14th in both the 200 (29.42) and 800 (3:03.55). Arampatzis also competed in the 100-meter hurdle event and finished 17th in the prelims. She ran the race in 17.1 seconds the fifth-fastest time in school history.

Neises took 13th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.19, the fourth-best time in school history. Forgey competed in the 1,500-meter run and took 14th in 5:10.2, the fourth-best mark in Tiger outdoor history. Fossum took 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 33-4, which is tied for the ninth-best mark in DWU history, and Jamie Geho finished ran the 5,000-meter run in 21:29.34, good for 19th and the 10th-best time in school history.

Daniel Porter was the top finisher for the Dakota Wesleyan men. He took 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 43-5.5. He also took 21st in the long jump with a mark of 19-2.75. Isaac Van Essen took 12th in the long jump with a leap of 20-9. Ryan Antaya finished 15th in the javelin with a toss of 139-1, and Paul Apenhorst competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished 17th in 1:05.87.

DWU has one more chance to qualify athletes for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships Friday, May 9, at the Concordia Twilight Meet in Seward, Neb. The national championships are May 22-24 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
