Tiger cross country competes at Mount Marty Invite

YANKTON, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s cross country teams took part in their last tune up before the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon when they competed at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D.

Trace Tjeerdsma paced the Tigers, finishing in 71st for the DWU men. He completed the course in 28:13.27. Mike Lynch took 79th in 28:26.92, Andrew Hernandez finished 82nd in 28:32.95, David Elliott was 107th in 29:29.44 and Chris Sterrett finished 147th in 35:55.46.

Concordia s Benjamin Sievert won the individual race in 25:40.22 and Dakota State s Andy Coy was second in 25:41.31. Concordia won the team title and Morningside College took second. The Tigers finished 12th as a team.

Kayleen Gupman paced the Dakota Wesleyan women. She finished 104th in 22:12.89. Aimee Lenocker took 114th in 22:54.6, Heather Banister finished 126th in 23:48.81 and Amanda Burton took 127th in a time of 23:52.63.

Courtney Schall competed unattached and won the race in 17:37.48 and Concordia s Sarah Kortze was second in 18:21.72. Morningside won the team competition and Concordia finished second.

Dakota Wesleyan wraps up the 2011 season Saturday, Nov. 5, when it travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the GPAC championships.
