Forgey breaks pair of school records at SDSU Invite

BROOKINGS, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s indoor track and field teams competed at the South Dakota State University Invitational over the weekend with one Tiger coming away with a pair of school records.

Junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) broke the DWU school record in the 800-meter and 1,000-meter runs at the event, which included more than 40 teams from the NCAA and NAIA. She finished 17th in the 1,000 meter with a time of 3 minutes and 3.47 seconds, which left her just .07 seconds from qualifying for the NAIA Indoor Championships. Forgey added a 23rd-place finish in the 800-meter with a time of 2:21.50.

On the men s side, the Tigers got a 21st-place finish from freshman Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) in the one-mile run with a time of 4:33.64, while teammate freshman Jeremiah Panec took 38th in the event with a time of 4:43.20.

Sophomore Isaac Van Essen (Sioux Falls, S.D.) gave the Tigers their lone top-10 finish, placing 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.68 meters.

Junior Daniel Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) placed 21st in the long jump with a mark of 6.30 meters, while adding a 15th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.05 meters.

The Tigers are next in action at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Concordia University Friday and Saturday in Seward, Neb.
