Tibbs, Forgey take fifth at GPAC ChampionshipsPublished by
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s track and field teams headed to Dordt College to compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships over the weekend in Sioux Center, Iowa. Two Tigers placed fifth in their respective events as DWU finished 10th in the men s and 11th in the women s standings. The Doane college women and the Concordia University men claimed the team titles at the event. Junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) was the lone Tiger on the women s side to place, taking fifth in the 800-meter run. She crossed the finish line in a time of 2 minutes, 18.90 seconds, just over three seconds behind the first-place runner, Jessa Sughroue from Doane. Senior Abby Fossum (Canton, S.D.) was 10th for the Tiger women in the triple jump with a leap of 10.15 meters. The DWU men were led by freshman Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.). He finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:08.90. Tibbs was also 12th in the men s 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:15.02. Junior Nicole Court-Menendez (Lewiston, Maine), a specialist in the race walk event, will represent the Tigers at the upcoming 2015 NAIA Track and Field Outdoor Championships May 21-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
